There’s something striking about seeing a historic place discussed not only for what it represents, but also for what it can make possible.
At the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, IFC Managing Director Makhtar Diop’s visit brought together two conversations that don’t always get discussed in the same breath: Ghana’s history and the business of tourism.
The park stands as a reminder of Ghana’s journey to independence and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s role in shaping that history. It is also one of the country’s most visited attractions, giving it a practical role in how visitors experience Ghana.
Where heritage meets opportunity

The Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial and Mausoleum Park was redeveloped with $4.8 million in World Bank support. Today, it provides space for cultural events, educational visits and national celebrations while keeping an important part of Ghana’s history accessible to the public.
But the value of a heritage site doesn’t stop at the entrance.
A visitor who spends time at the park may also need a hotel, a restaurant, transportation, a guide or locally made products. That chain of activity creates opportunities well beyond the attraction itself.
IFC’s support for PLP Properties’ 170-room Hampton by Hilton hotel in Accra is part of that wider tourism picture. The project is expected to support nearly 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, including 200 permanent positions.
For Yadaba Communications, the visit was also a reminder of why communication matters when stories bring together heritage, investment and livelihoods.
Our role in supporting the event was to help communicate its significance clearly, engage the media and ensure the story reached relevant audiences without losing the human meaning behind the occasion.
There is a useful lesson here for organisations planning conferences, stakeholder engagements and public events: the event itself is only part of the story. How that story is framed, communicated and carried to the right audiences can shape how people understand its wider value.
Ghana’s heritage tells us where we have come from. Tourism investment can help create opportunities around that heritage.
Every important event deserves communication that connects with the right audience. If you’re planning a conference, campaign, corporate event or stakeholder engagement, Yadaba Communications is ready to help you tell your story.
